Student Achievement

As a school, our instructional program is tailored to teach the curriculum to our students at the 75% and above.  Our students continue to reach the highest level of spiritual and academic achievement.  There are a number of standardized tests that are used to assess student progress including the Fall ITBS Test, CogAT in grades 5 & 7, writing assessment in grades 4 & 7, 8th grade NC Computer Test, and the NC End of Grade Test for Algebra and Geometry.

There are many ways to measure student growth fro  the ITBS including the student's percentile growth, the stanines and/or the grade/school ranking.

Percentile:  How the student did against other students who took the test.  For example, 86% means that the student scored better than 86% of the students who took the test.  It is not a percent i.e., a quiz or test.  StMM students consistently score in the mid 80's to low 90's on each of the core tests.

Stanines: Stanines range from 1-9 with 1-3 considered low achievement, 4-6 average achievement, and 7-9 high achievement. StMM students consistently score in the top 3 stanines

School Percentile Rank: Where our school ranks compared to other schools across the country.  StMM students ranked in the top 3% across all areas.

National Junior Honor Society

Each year StMM honors those students who have maintained a 3.75 GPA over six consecutive quarters.  These students from grades seven and eight are inducted into this society at a special ceremony in February.  Each member of the society is expected to maintain their GPA and be actively involved in the mission of the school by participating in service activities both in and outside the school community.

Approximately 48% of the students in these two grades are members of the National Junior Honor Society. Of these students over 90% of them are inducted into the National Honor Society at their perspective high schools.

Quarterly Honors

Students in grades 5-8 are honored each quarter for spiritual and academic achievement. Students are recognized for either Principal's Honors (all A's) or Academic Honors (A's and B's). At the beginning for the fourth quarter those students who achieved either honors for three consecutive quarters are invited to an Honor's Breakfast.
